The Bun Life - Frannie Feeling Under the Weather

Hey all. I woke up this morning and Frannie and Thumps were running circles waiting for the pellets as usual, and they both ate. However, I walked by the enclosure a few hours later, and Frannie was doing the loaf of bread pose in the litterbox. Right away, I knew something was off, I know my girl and she never does that. I handed her a carrot, and she didn't want it. Then I really got worried. I called my friend Catherine, we decided I could give her a little simethicone, which I gave her 1cc of. I then massaged her belly for a good hour, all the while Frannie looking at me, "Can you please just leave me alone already?" She was moving around after that, a little inactive, so I gave her some time to rest, maybe she was just full or something. Could have been a little gas bubble or something. I walked by them again earlier, and they were bouncing around, begging for a carrot, which they both ate one, so that made me feel a whole lot better, naturally :). I am just grateful she is not sick.

  1. I am grateful too. I am always grateful when they are healthy and eating. Bunny tummy troubles are scary.

  2. Oh dear!! That is a fright! I'm glad to hear Frannie's doing better. Those darn gas bubbles can be so uncomfortable for our little furballs. Sounds like you did exactly the right thing with the simethicone and tummy rub! You're a very good daddy! Just continue to watch her..and of course keep an eye on the poops. They are quite telling. I wish you, and your furfamily, a very happy Thanksgiving!!!!

  3. It's always heart-failure-inducing when they're "not quite right"; you never know if it's just a momentary thing or if a call to the vet is required (and of course, stuff like this always comes up during holidays and weekends when vet access is limited). Sounds like you caught whatever it was in time--haapy Thanksgiving!

  4. I understand completely, any time they don't pounce on food, I panic. And isn't it crazy how we know our buns so well, that we know instantly when soemthing is wrong? Anyone but you would probably say, well, she's sitting in her litter box, don't bunnies do that? You're such a good bun dad.

We will count Baby Fran's health among the things we are thankful for tomorrow (and today). Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

  5. Glad to hear Baby Fwans bouncing around. I know how upset you were. You know I was worried too. It's good that you know so much about the kids that you can help them. Now we can have a Happy thanksgiving.

  6. Jim, I would still give her more simethicone just to make sure it has really passed. I sometimes do it for the next day too. (1cc 3x/day)
Call me if you need anything :)

Lori- AKA "the person who wants to steal Baby Fwan"

PS- perhaps she wasn't feeling well b/c she hasn't allowed me to see her adorable face in a while??? lol

  7. Aww, thanks guys, I am really touched by all the responses I got from all of you. Each one of you are special people. Yes, I knew absolutely instantly something was wrong. She might as well have had a flag up reading "Umm, Dad, I'm at a 2 right now, and I need to be at a 5, can you do something that doesn't involve touching me?" I am gonna give her a bit more today and tomorrow like Lori suggested, Simethicone is inert, and virtually harmless when given in standard doses, even if not needed.
